Dirty play at the Pit

Tonight's other Games

Back to the Reservation

Hey Everybody,

Its Round 2 of the Playoffs.... so let's jump right in and GIT R DONE !

Dirty play at the Pit
I love good competitive sports and rivalry games. I enjoy watching to opponents square off and battle until the end. What I despise more than anything is dirty play and that is what I saw last Friday night.

The Falcons of Lincoln County had two missions and tried to execute them in one order.

Mission One: Destroy the quarterback at all cost and forget the whistles or positioning of helmet when attacking. Mission Two: Win the game.

These clowns had 3 roughing the passer calls and two un-sportsman like conduct calls nailed against them.
Now I did not graduate from Harvard, but it doesn’t take any sports fan long to realize that these guys were out to destroy the quarterback. They had late hit after late hit. They ran around on the sidelines with a rage of hate. Our quarterback took some licks, but what if he had been paralyzed, or had been hit so hard that it could have damaged his life for good, then what would we all feel like today?

I beg all coaches, parents, fans and officials, pay close attention to such acts of violence in all sports, you sure would not want anybody on your team or in your family to get nailed for something they did not even torment nor start.

Tonight's Other Games
If you love high school football there are several games that make my mouth water that I would love to see.

Franklin @ Ravenwood: This game is going to be a great game.

John Paul II @ Knox Webb: This will be a great match where you get to see the famous Golden Tate.
I remember once back in the Day O when he played for Grammar, I saw him jump an opponent on a full stride to score, just like a deer jumping a fence, up and over.

Wilson Central @ Cookeville: This will be a good one, it's whoever wins this one that will meet the winner of my next topic.

Back to the Reservation
The frost was on the teepee this morning and that is where the Bulldogs will be tonight at 7 pm as Smyrna faces Riverdale Warriors. Yes we are headed to the famous Tomahawk Stadium in Murfreesboro Tennessee. Tony has them ranked 11th in the nation http://www.tonybianco.com/high_school_football.htm Not bad.

Can they be beat? Of course they can, but you must do it one play at a time. The Warriors are famous for quick scores. They send the kitchen sink every play.

Smyrna has made Superman Shirts in honor of this one except the S is in Purple and Gold. It is also the symbol of last years dazzling play style of one of last year’s standouts Charles Orona, who is one my favorites. Orona wore a superman t-shirt under his jersey every game. I would chuckle when he would lift his jersey to wipe the sweat or something, and you would see the blue t-shirt with a big red S looking right at you.

The press box will be crowded, as WGNS am 1450 will be broadcasting the game and it will be an early arrival for me. I like to get to these games early and get my equipment in superior position. WGNS is also broadcasting simultaneously over the internet
(CLICK HERE TO LISTEN: Smyrna vs. Riverdale - 6:30pm Pregame 7:00pm CST Kickoff)

The Daily News Journal has written a story about both teams everyday at www.dnj.com.
This morning’s rag praises Gaston and Smo for being finalist in this year Mr. Football. Earlier this year Gaston and I were in San Antonio for the Army All American Bowl, as as for Smo, I produced his highlight video (Adam Smotherman - Video) and watched him perform at his first combine.

It will be a great game, and of course somebody will be putting their equipment up for the season. Win, Loose or Draw we all learn something after each and every game that happens when our children participate in events.

To my son Tyler, who will more than likely see some playing time tonight.
Good Luck and I love that big heart of yours. You will be fighting until the end regardless of the scoreboard. Don’t ever change, that is called determination or persistence, and it will always make you a great worker in the game of life.

It’s like someone said "Winners are like biscuits, when the heat is on, they rise to the top".

That's A Wrap
Well that is wrap.

Get to the reservation early!

I am sure they will shucking Indian Corn in the end zone when you get there.

While you are watching the game, gaze your eyes on the teepee from time to time as smoke is usually sifting from the top.

Good Luck to the Dogs and I will see you next week.

Take Care and God Bless

If you see me at the game don’t forget to say Hi!

It's all about the bottom line!

What happened to Back Yard Football?

Playoffs

Hey Gang,

Well yes, I know it's the same story, Stork where in the world have you been?

Work has just buried me and that is my real job. I am battling more at the office since the day I started. Just carving out enough time to write a rag has been picking at me, so I decided to crush one out just for all the fans who visit.

Lets Roll !

It's all about the bottom line!
Well, if you haven’t noticed the state of affairs lately in Knoxville, you are sure to notice they have been busy in THE WAR ROOM. The house of cards fell last Saturday night, if remember from my previous rags, I spoke of the ole ball coach (Steve Spurrier) throwing a little salt on the season and he did just that. Yes, he took the gamecocks into Knoxville and just made a fool out of the whole situation.

Does he have Fulmer’s number? Maybe, but I really think he is about attitude and bottom line.

Steve Spurrier is a very motivated coach who has a sway of arrogance that says “I know what I am doing and I win when it counts. I am coach who knows bottom line just what to do”. He works well on the fly and delivers a bottom line result when it counts.

You have players on your team or in your work force that know the bottom line and get the job done when the bell rings. The real question is do they have a touch of arrogance or walk with a “get out of my way” attitude? The answer is yes. All of those people who deliver bottom line results display an attitude that is commanding in all phases. I personally like people who fall in this group, some may call them leaders.

What happened to Back Yard Football?
I was with my daughter the other day on a field trip, and noticed the kids just having a great day playing, cutting up and enjoying a beautiful fall day.

It made me think of the DAY O when kids would play backyard football.

Now if you are 35+ you know exactly the scene. Two complete passes make a first down, it was a blast.

There was always a kid who was a great QB in backyard football but never played high school, guess he couldn’t make the sacrifices to suit up. Penalties were rare and you never ran the ball, it was fun.

Somebody always tried the Statue of Liberty. Ha Ha! LOL!

Playoffs
Well they are bracketed up and we are ready roll. Guess what it’s back to? That’s right, THE PIT in Fayetteville, TN. Yes, we play the Falcons and it’s always a good time at the PIT.

To me I love it for one reason the lighting and atmosphere are perfect. When you video tape anything or shoot pictures you love light and that is something that you can never have too much.

One thing is for sure somebody is going to move on and others will be putting their equipment up for the year.

People are picking us to win, and if we do then that leads us back to another familiar place in Middle TN home of the one an only Riverdale Warriors. Yes, if everything goes as planned we will be eating Indian Corn for our pre-game meal next week.

I normally don’t like to predict the future, but I will be ready either way.

If you read this rag, often you know where we are going!

That's A Wrap
Well that is wrap.

Sorry for the delay, but I am trying and that’s all that counts.

This season has been rough on me, but my attitude and spirits are doing great.

Take your time and enjoy the view if you are in TN or KY. As the leaves are perfect, it is always a short time every year when the colors present themselves. When it starts to rain in a couple of days, somebody is going to need a rake.

Gang, I will see you @ THE PIT.

God Bless and Take Care.
